Prussian Blues
presented during Fringe Manila at Pineapple Lab
Feb. 8- 17, 2019
Prussian Blues is a body of work that bridges the historical and the contemporary, merging the time-honored photographic process of cyanotype with the transformative possibilities of Augmented Reality (AR). This series reimagines the relationship between analog and digital, offering a multi-sensory experience that invites viewers to engage with photography in new and unexpected ways.
The iconic prussian blue hues of cyanotype evoke a sense of timelessness and introspection, while the process—using UV light to develop images on chemically treated surfaces—embodies the unpredictability of natural forces. By layering AR elements onto these traditional prints, Prussian Blues breathes new life into the medium, creating an interplay between the tactile and the intangible. The addition of movement, sound, and interactivity transforms the static prints into dynamic portals that reveal hidden narratives and imagined worlds.
This synthesis of old and new reflects an ongoing dialogue about how artistic traditions can evolve through modern technologies while preserving their essence. Prussian Blues pays homage to the origins of photography while exploring its potential in an increasingly digital world. It is a meditation on the dualities of permanence and ephemerality, tradition and innovation, grounding viewers in the tactile beauty of the past while transporting them into the boundless possibilities of the future.
